The Next Big Step

Full time work has really transformed who I am. My work is on point with great concepts and designs. I love working with the people who I have been working with. I have found a place where I can see myself being for a good 5 years or so. However, I am still suck on this montra that I have to progress and keep moving forward. So I have been keeping an eye on the next big thing I want to do. Its not too much of an urgent need; its more of like a watchful eye. I think of it as going for a drive. You know you need to take a turn eventually, but until then you are just enjoying the ride. Here are the suggestions:

First Suggestion: Get more involved
I have thought of volunteering at the National Gallery of Art on the weekends. One of my friends from a previous job volunteered at the Freer and Sackler galleries and help assist gallery nights. Maybe the Phillips Collection would consider some volunteers? I would totally love to let my inner geek fly. The only problem is getting downtown on the weekends. Metro isn’t the most reliable and parking on the mall is non-existent. It would also be like a busman’s holiday, considering I’m in the city during the weekdays. Maybe I’ll consider if I move into the city…

Second Suggestion: Look into Grad School
Hmmm. Good be good. Beneficial to my career, especially with job placements. Some creative directors job do require an MFA. Not to mention that there are art schools in the DC/MD area. MICA, Corcoran, and the Art Institute to name a few. Ooooohh, having an art school for grad school would look awesome on a resume. Once I have a little more money obtained. That maybe a possibility…

Third Suggestion: Promote Side-Freelancing
I do like working on the wedding invitations that I have done so far. The only problem though is the work is alot for just one person alone. I need to have assistance in order to really pull through with this. Plus, my job already takes up a majority of my time, and I need to be more focused at work. I’d consider only if I was working part-time.

I’m gonna take sometime to think things through. In the meantime, I will keep cruising.
